Universal Polerouter 1st Bumper Automatic ref.20214 Half-Rotor Rare

UNIVERSAL GENEVE Polerouter Early Model, by Universal Genève, famous for developing micro-rotors.

While Universal Genève's famous Polerouter is characterized by its micro-rotor, this is an early model equipped with a bumper-type automatic winding movement, caliber 138SS.
Models equipped with this movement were only produced for about a year starting in 1954, making them historically significant.
Furthermore, the initial model name "Polarouter" was quickly changed to "Polerouter," and the movement was subsequently replaced by caliber 215. However, since this is a Polerouter with caliber 138SS, it is understood to be a product from an transitional period.

Even for an early model, the case shows very little damage, and the dial is clean, making it quite a rare find.
While the bumper-type half-rotor is a more primitive mechanism compared to the micro-rotor, its unique spring feel and operation offer a warmth not found in modern watches.
It is also an important piece in watch history as it was one of the works that helped to popularize the name of Gérald Genta.

In terms of condition, the case and bracelet have minor scratches but no major dents.
Although it is largely unpolished, the case condition is quite good considering its age.
The plating also remains largely intact.
The case back has minor scratches but is clean. The serial number is slightly faded but still clearly visible.
The dial, hands, etc. have light scratches and dirt, but they are considered to be in very good condition considering their age.
The crystal is original with almost no scratches or cracks. The crown is also original.

Overall, it is in excellent condition considering it is about 70 years old.
