The Must de Cartier Tank, released for a wider audience, is based on the historically popular Tank Louis. This rare early Must de Cartier Tank is known as a Pre-Must Tank; this particular example is an even rarer European-market Pre-Must Tank, produced in very limited quantities. Its early cannonball crown gives it an exceptional vintage character. The European version is essentially constructed much like the Tank Louis. The main differences are that the case is vermeil rather than 18-karat gold, and the dial uses script lettering instead of block lettering. As a result, it does not immediately appear to be a Louis model, which contributes to its popularity; however, examples are extremely rare.
