Cartier Santos-Dumont PARIS 1960s Cal. 21
When discussing Cartier, the Santos is an indispensable model. As the historic model that was the world's first men's wristwatch developed by Cartier, it enjoys enduring popularity.
This is a Santos-Dumont from the late 1960s.
While extra-flat models are typically seen from the 1970s to 1980s, this particular piece is from the 1960s, a period when Cartier was still producing in small quantities.
Cartier pieces from this era are rare, with very few remaining today.
The main differences in this type are the case shape and the dial.
Compared to models from around 1980, the dial and bezel have a smaller proportion relative to the case, resembling the early Santos models from the 1910s.
The case size, at 22.5mm, is also similar to those from the 1910s to 1920s.
The dial features small "Cartier" and "PARIS" markings, giving it a more classical impression. While it's a shame it doesn't have Breguet hands, the overall atmosphere is excellent.
Although the original size is small and close to a ladies' size, it would suit men with slender wrists.
The movement is a Frédéric Piguet Cal.21. While slim LeCoultre movements were also used during this era, this one is easier to maintain, which is a reassuring factor.
Regarding its condition, the case has minor scratches but no significant dents.
The crucial case edges, which are characteristic of the Santos, are well-preserved, retaining its distinctive Santos look.
The dial is very clean, with only minor dirt and stains. There are no cracks.
The original crystal has a scratch at 7 o'clock, but it doesn't impair visibility, so it has been left as is. There are no other scratches. (A custom-made replacement can be arranged at an additional cost and time.)
The case back has some scratches but is otherwise clean. There are slight dents, but they have been left to preserve originality. The serial number is clearly visible.
The buckle, though from a different era, is an authentic 18k buckle.
