The Santos is an indispensable part of any discussion about Cartier. It holds an undeniable popularity as a historic model, being the world's first men's wristwatch developed by Cartier.
This is the Ref. 78097 Santos-Dumont LM, which was released as part of the "Louis Cartier Collection" in the 1970s.
Even within the Louis Cartier Collection, the production numbers were small, making it quite rare to find a well-preserved piece.
It features the rare original PARIS dial.
While the slim "Extra-Flat" model is popular among Santos-Dumont watches, this thicker Santos-Dumont LM offers a different charm. Its three-dimensional construction makes it a popular item among collectors.
Few remain, making it a highly valuable item even overseas.
The case has minor scratches but no major dents. It also retains the characteristic edges of the Santos, without any roundedness from polishing. The overall polishing appears to have been minimal.
The glass and hands are almost free of scratches. The case back also has no scratches or dents. The serial number is clearly preserved.
The dial is the rare PARIS dial.
The dial is a beautiful white with no cracks and almost no discoloration.
There may be minimal dirt, but it is very slight.
There are also faint hairline scratches from 1 o'clock to 4 o'clock, but they are hard to notice unless you look at them under specific lighting, requiring you to change the angle and squint to see them.
Overall, it is a piece in extremely good condition.
This piece embodies the unique strength of the Santos, distinct from the Extra-Flat.
The buckle is an original Cartier 18K buckle.
