The Santos is an essential part of any discussion of Cartier. As the historic model that became the world’s first men’s wristwatch developed by Cartier, it enjoys enduring popularity.
This is Ref. 78097 Santos-Dumont Large, introduced in the 1970s as part of the “Louis Cartier Collection.”
Production numbers were low even within the Louis Cartier Collection, and examples that have survived in beautiful condition are quite rare.
It features the rare original PARIS Dial.
Although the slim “Extra Flat” is popular among Santos-Dumont models, this thicker Santos-Dumont Large has a different character. Its dimensional construction makes it a popular piece among collectors.
Few examples remain, making it highly sought after overseas as well.

Condition and Warranty
The case has minor scratches but no major dents. It retains the distinctive Santos edges, without the softened contours caused by excessive polishing. Overall, it appears to have received only minimal polishing.
The crystal and hands are virtually free of scratches. The caseback also has no scratches or dents. The Serial Number remains clearly visible.
The dial is the rare PARIS Dial.
It is a beautiful white dial with no cracks and virtually no discoloration.
There may be a small amount of dirt, but it is minimal.
There are also faint linear scratches between 1 and 4 o’clock, but they are difficult to see unless viewed closely from different angles under the right lighting.
Overall, this is an exceptionally well-preserved piece.
This piece conveys the distinctive strength of the Santos, unlike the Extra Flat.
It is fitted with a genuine Cartier 18K Buckle.
