Among vintage Cartier watches, the Stepped Tank is a rare model known only to a select few.
This particular model, Ref. 5512117, is a European specification model featuring a rare black dial. It is a boy's size with a face measuring 27.5mm, which is a good size. The Stepped Tank was produced in small quantities in three countries—New York, Paris, and London—around 1970 (approximately between 1973 and 1976). There were slight design differences depending on the region, and this model features the simplest construction. The black dial and plated type model without "must de" are quite rare. This square-shaped model has a good size and is likely comfortable to wear.
The overall condition is considered very good. The case has minor scratches, and the case back is relatively clean with minor scratches.
The dial has faint cracks and dirt overall, which are visible depending on the light, but should not be very noticeable at a normal viewing distance when worn.
Other than that, there are few other stains or scratches, and the condition is good. The hands are clean with almost no discoloration or scratches.
The buckle is the original Cartier GP from that period.
