Cartier Tank Obus Blue Dial Ref. 5512116
Among vintage Cartier watches, the stepped tank is a rare model.
Produced in limited numbers in New York, Paris, and London around 1970 (approximately between 1973 and 1976), this model has subtle design differences depending on the region.
This is a Paris or London model with a push-back case that has no screws on the case back.
Given that they are both in Europe, the Paris and London models are so similar that it is difficult to distinguish between them. This model was sold in either Paris or London.
Only 5,000 of each were produced at the time, making them extremely rare.
Cartier watches with larger case sizes like this are scarce in production and circulation, and solid gold types have significantly appreciated in value.
This model features a vermeil case and a rare blue dial, even among stepped tanks (though it's a deep blue, which may be hard to discern from the photo).
The overall condition appears to be very good.
The case has only minor scratches and no dents. The plating also remains in good original condition. Although there are some areas where the plating is thin or has worn off, we have not re-plated it to respect its original condition.
The case back also has only minor scratches, and the inner serial number is clearly visible, making it relatively clean.
The overall condition is very good.
The case has minor scratches, but no major dents, and I see almost no plating loss.
The dial has some minor scuffs and some faint cracks, but these are only noticeable upon close inspection. The dial is a beautiful blue color.
The crystal also has some minor scratches but is generally clean.
Since it is the original crystal, a clean one is quite rare.
The buckle is a genuine Cartier GP.
The band is aftermarket.
This is a rare, large-sized model, which is unusual for vintage Cartier.
