Cartier Ronde Round 1970 Manual Wind Ref. 7980

The Tank is, of course, indispensable when discussing Cartier, but the Ronde is also a model with a long history. In recent years, pre-1970s models fitted with movements by Jaeger-LeCoultre, EWC, and others have become increasingly popular among collectors, with prices continuing to rise. This is a very rare Ronde model from Cartier's early-1970s period. Unlike a standard Ronde, this watch features a wide bezel and a sector-style Roman numeral dial, making it an exceptionally rare configuration. The dial features a Guilloché Dial pattern, while the hands are deliberately black to match the dial rather than blue. The double-line bezel has a hairline finish, creating an exceptionally elegant design rarely seen today. Although it is a different model, a slightly earlier Maxi Ronde was recently featured by HODINKEE and attracted some attention. The movement is based on a Puzza movement. (We have confirmed its authenticity through a repair estimate from Cartier, so there is no doubt that this is a genuine piece. The repair estimate can also be provided.) This is a rare Ronde model that symbolizes Cartier's history. It offers a fascinating alternative to the Tank models. The dial is a Guilloché Dial type bearing the Cartier signature. (This model does not have markings such as “Swiss” or “Paris.”) The movement is by Puyo, a brand that existed before being absorbed into today's ETA. It is fitted with a genuine Cartier Deployant Buckle from the same Era. The Strap is a suede Strap made to order by our shop. This model is eligible for Cartier's restoration service in its home country. This service respects the original condition of the watch, restoring it as much as possible without replacing the dial, movement, or other components. Although the dial and other components are already sufficiently clean, Cartier would restore them to its exacting standards, so this service may be worth considering if desired.
