Cartier Tank 1960s 9P Movement Piaget Tank
The Tank is an indispensable part of any discussion about Cartier.
In recent years, models from before the 1970s, particularly those equipped with movements from Lecoultre or EWC, have become popular among collectors, and their prices continue to soar.
This piece, from the late 1960s, is a very rare collaboration with Piaget.
The movement and case are made by Piaget, while the dial, hands, and crown are to Cartier specifications.
The movement is a thin Piaget-made 9P, marked Cartier. The dial is a special guilloché-engraved type, the hands are blued leaf hands, and the crown is an octagonal shape with a sapphire, indicating a highly detailed construction.
During this period, Piaget also produced rectangular Tank-type watches, and this model appears to be based on one of those. (There is also a Piaget engraving on the case.)
(It has been confirmed as an authentic item through Cartier repair estimates, so there is no doubt about its authenticity. The repair estimate details will also be included.)
As a rare Piaget model symbolizing Cartier's history, I believe this is a very interesting piece.
The dial is guilloché-engraved with "Cartier" and "Swiss" markings.
Since it originally had the "Swiss" marking, it is an original that has not been replaced.
It is equipped with a Piaget Cal. 9P movement.
While models with the Cal. 9P2 began to appear after 1980, this is the original, and its thickness is a remarkable 2mm.
Regarding the condition, the case has minor scratches but no significant dents.
To maintain its original state, it has not been polished, and minor scratches have been left as they are.
The dial has some light dirt and stains, but considering its age, it is relatively clean. There are no cracks.
The original crystal has a light scratch in the center, but it does not impair visibility, so it has been left as is. No other significant scratches are visible. (It is possible to custom-make a replacement at an additional cost and with some time.)
The case back has some scratches but is clean. The serial number is clearly preserved. (It is inscribed on the lug.)
This model is eligible for restoration services at Cartier's home country.
This service respects the original watch as much as possible, offering maintenance that involves restoring without changing the dial or movement, etc.
Although the dial is already quite clean, it might be worth considering if you are concerned.
The buckle is the original Cartier D-buckle from that period.
The strap is a custom-made crocodile strap from our store.
