Bueche-Girod Mercedes-Benz Radiator Grille 18K White Gold Automatic
Produced in the 1960s, this Bueche-Girod watch is inspired by the radiator grille of a Mercedes-Benz. During the same period, Bueche-Girod manufactured Tank and Baignoire watches for Cartier and also created its own automobile-inspired watches, including designs based on Lancia vehicles.
This model recreates the styling of a 1960s Mercedes-Benz, incorporating both the radiator grille and the automobile brand’s emblem into the design. Although Corum is well known for watches featuring radiator-grille motifs, Bueche-Girod may have produced this model earlier.
Ref. 11702-1 features a blue grid-pattern dial, an 18K White Gold case, and a Frédéric Piguet Automatic movement. The case measures 37 mm wide by 30 mm tall, excluding the three-pointed star emblems on the lugs. Its intricate case construction and connection to a now-defunct watchmaker make this a very rare and difficult-to-find model with historical interest. The watch weighs 42 g and fits a wrist of approximately 18 cm.

CONDITION
The case has minor scratches but remains in very clean condition considering its age. There are no prominent dents, and the caseback has relatively few scratches. The serial number remains clearly visible, while the enamel and engraving on the emblems are also well preserved. Overall signs of wear are minimal.
The dial has some discoloration but remains very clean overall. The crystal has no cracks, although small age-related, pore-like marks are visible. These do not affect use.
The band and bracelet are aftermarket, and the aftermarket buckle is Stainless Steel. The band is attached using an unusual method involving rivet-like components. Replacement is possible, but because it requires specialized work, frequent band changes are not recommended.
