I sometimes ponder the reason why.
Recently, I had the opportunity to see Gustav Klimt's works in person.
I had been interested in them before, but seeing the real thing changed my impression significantly.
Klimt's works, at first glance, appear flamboyant and luxurious, heavily using gold leaf.
However, as I slowly gazed at the works, it wasn't the luxury that captivated me.
It was the beauty of the composition.
Figures and negative space.
Straight lines and curves.
The arrangement of colors.
Despite everything being meticulously calculated, it felt strangely natural and comfortable.
Though flamboyant, it was never noisy.
There was a quiet dignity and a consistent philosophy of beauty.
I realized it at that moment.
Truly beautiful things do not chase trends.
That's why I believe they remain beautiful even as times change.
I feel the same way about architecture.
When I first encountered Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture, I didn't feel like I was looking at "old buildings."
Rather, there was a freshness to its beauty that felt particularly striking now.
And that feeling is common to vintage watches as well.
The beautiful curves of the case.
The delicate, subtle curves given to the hands.
The beautiful negative space left on the dial.
These are tiny differences, almost imperceptible at first glance.
However, the beauty of these slight lines and the accumulation of curves create harmony throughout the entire watch.
It's not about flashy ornamentation.
It's the philosophy residing in the details.
I believe that truly beautiful things are born from such attention to detail.
That's why vintage watches continue to move people's hearts even decades later.
Trends create new value.
That is necessary for each era.
